Day two... The White House and the monuments

We got up bright and early to see the sights. You know, Washington is pretty cold this time of year. I mean we knew it would be cool, but our cool and their cool are totally different. So if you are planning a trip back east and they say the weather is cool, bring clothes for blizzard conditions because it is FREEZING there.
Now, on to the sites…the White House is so neat, I loved being there and seeing where the president of the United States lives. While we were walking to see the back of the house we were escorted very quickly from the sidewalk, they would not say why or when we could return, we just had to leave NOW. Just has we were crossing the street to the Washington Monument we heard sirens and helicopters and a large motorcade left the White House it was all very exhilarating ; we think we witnesses the President leaving!! How cool is that.

You will notice in the photo below sniper on the roof .

The Lincoln Memorial was awe-inspiring. It is so amazing; I did not realize how big it is. The Gettysburg Address in carved into one side and his second inanguration speech on the other. I was reading the Gettysburg Address to Cory and my niece Emily, the emotions that came to us were overwhelming, I started to cry and they choked up…WOW

I can’t adequately describe how you feel while walking around DC. I felt very proud to be an American and to witness some very beautiful sites of our country. The memorial arena to WWI, and WWII had some of the best quotes. While reading, you could hear the conviction in their words. It was a profound experience. What a wonderful day.
